  16.           The _e_x_t_c_o_m_p_o_s_e program will allow a user on a properly-
  17.           equipped workstation to enter the appropriate data to enable
  18.           a mail message he is sending to make reference to "external"
  19.           data, that is, data that is not included in the mail message
  20.           itself  but is otherwise available on the network via a
  21.           suitable mechanism.

  23.           The user will be prompted for all necessary information.
  24.           External data may be referenced as local or AFS files, as
  25.           files available for FTP (anonymous or authenticated), or as
  26.           data available via a mailserver mechanism.  The user will be
  27.           asked to provide a MIME content-type value to describe the
  28.           type of data being referenced, and to specify whether or not
  29.           the data has been encoded with one of the algorithms for
  30.           encoding data for email.  (Such encoding is not necessary,
  31.           and is in fact inefficient and silly when used with
  32.           externally referenced data.)

  35.           files by programs like mailto(1).
